Today is World Sleep Day 2023 organized by the World Sleep Society! A yearly reminder about the importance of healthy sleep, organized by the World Sleep Society. WSS members, sleep experts, and community health advocates in over 70 countries are organizing local, regional and national activities to promote sleep health. The theme for 2023: "Sleep is Essential for Health".
My favorite quote from WSD leadership this year is “Just because sleep is a natural behavior does not mean that sleep should be taken for granted” from Fang Han, MD, co-chair of World Sleep Day 2023. My own philosophy is that natural sleep is achievable for most of us, but it requires commitment and discipline, just like dieting and exercising. So I encourage you to take time today, or any day, to reflect on your own sleep, and think of ways to give your brain and body the rest they need. Create your own sleep opportunity ✨
Just like eating well and exercising, sleep is a behavior that is foundational to one’s physical, mental, and social well-being.The European Academy of Neurology and World Health Organization have recognized the importance of sleep to brain health.
